I thought we could share some Classroom management tips and hints here as well.
Classroom Management must be in place BEFORE you ever try to teach a thing to your students.
In the style of the ever-changing technology prowess of our student, their need for positive relationships is also evolving. Their basic needs must be met, namely belonging. I have a very useful book I received from a workshop loooonnnnngggg ago titled "How to Handle the Hard-to-Handle Student." Want to know what they suggested? Build a relationship with that student. They coined it 3x20: 3 minutes a day for 20 days with just you and your hard to handle student. Talking, laughing, sharing a soda, coloring a picture, playing a card game or board game, etc. 3 minutes before school, after school, before lunch, etc. Anything that has nothing to do with school. Ask questions without sounding prying. It has worked for me in the past...it's worth a shot. 1 Hour of connection time could save yo hours and hours of headache all year long. We all know which students coming next year have established discipline issues. Should you find one of these students on your roster, I challenge you to implement 3x20 the first day of school!!!!!
Let's be PROactive and not REactive to Hard to Handle Students!!!
As always let's discuss this in the "Discussions" tab at the top of this page ;-)
